Historical Description:
The site this restaurant is located was originally owned by Baltus Van Kleek, the credited founder of the City of Poughkeepsie. The land changed hands numerous times and in 1871 a tavern was built. The tavern operated throughout prohibition and duRiver Station Steak and Seafood Restaurant - Hudson River Valleye to its proximity to the train station rooms were rented above it. The tavern fell on difficult times when the waterfront became an undesirable area of the city to visit; however, it has experienced a revival with the construction of the Children’s Museum and Dooley Square Project.

The Site:
The River Station is the oldest continually operating food establishment in the City of Poughkeepsie. It is also the only restaurant that offers outdoor dinning between the Poughkeepsie Highland Railroad Bridge and the Mid-Hudson Bridge. The restaurant offers both full service dining and catering and has a large menu of sea food, steaks (for both lunch and dinner), light appetizers, as well as, a pub at night. The bar offers happy hour specials from 4 pm to 7 pm on week nights, ladies night on Thursdays, Karaoke Fridays, and high definition flat screens for sports viewing.

After going over the George Washington Bridge continue SW on Henry Hudson Dr toward Colony Rd. Turn right onto River Rd/CR-505. Turn left onto Merkle St., turn left onto N. Central Rd, turn right onto Ridge Plz N. and then turn left to take the ramp toward NJ Highways. Merge onto I-95/New Jersey Turnpike S. Keep right and take I-95 south toward I-80/Garden State Parkway. Merge onto Nj-4 via exit 72A toward Paramus. Keep right at the fork to continue on NJ-4 W. Merge onto NJ-17 toward Garden State Parkway N. NJ_17 becomes I-287N. Merge onto I-87N/New York State Thruway N via the exit on the left toward Albany. Merge onto NY-299 E via Exit 18 toward Poughkeepsie. Turn right onto US-9W. Merge onto US-44/NY-55 E toward Mid Hudson Bridge. Merge onto US-9 toward Wappingers Falls/Hyde Park. Merge onto US-9 N via the ramp on the left toward US 44/RT 55/Church St/Hyde Park. Take the Main St. Ramp. Turn left onto Main St. End. Turn right onto N. Water St.
